Walnuts are healthier for the heart than olive oil, they could save our live

The study consisted of observing 24 adults, half of whom had normal cholesterol levels and the other half had high levels.

Study participants were given two servings of high-fat salami and cheese, which they consumed one week apart.

To one portion, the scientists added five teaspoons of olive oil, and to the other, the kernels of eight walnuts.

Tests show that both olive oil and walnuts help reduce inflammation in the arteries, which occurs suddenly after a meal rich in saturated fat, and which over time promotes hardening of the arteries and increases the risk of heart disease and stroke.

However, unlike olive oil, walnuts also help maintain the elasticity and flexibility of the arteries.

Treats heart rhythm disorders

Researchers also note that the alpha linoleic acid in walnuts may be beneficial for people with heart rhythm disorders.

They warned the study participants that they could eat absolutely anything they wanted, as long as they also consumed nuts.

“This suggests that the protective fats in walnuts counteract the effects of saturated fat in the diet, while neutral fat, such as olive oil, does not play as important a role,” says Robert Vogel, a professor at the University of Maryland, Baltimore.

Because they are elastic, arteries can stretch when blood flow improves.

Fat consumption interrupts the production of nitric oxide by the “lining” of the arteries, which is necessary to keep blood vessels flexible.

Walnuts also contain antioxidants and arginine, an amino acid used by the body to produce nitric oxide.

For vegetarians

Especially for vegetarians, the advice is to combine nuts with vegetables and bread.

Walnuts and hazelnuts can replace most animal nutrients for vegetarians.

Nutrients include most B vitamins, phosphorus, iron, copper, potassium, and protein.

Like all proteins from plant sources, those from walnuts and hazelnuts are not inferior in quality to animal proteins.

However, in combination with bread, cereals and legumes (especially soy and lentils) you can get the full and balanced range of essential amino acids.
