Ingredients:
– 1 box of your favorite brownie mix (and required ingredients as per the box instructions)
– 1 package (3.9 oz) instant chocolate pudding mix
– 2 cups cold milk
– 1 cup brewed coffee, cooled to room temperature
– 2 cups heavy cream
– 1/4 cup powdered sugar
– 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
– Chocolate shavings or curls, for garnish
– Optional: toffee bits, chocolate chips, or strawberries/raspberries for additional layers
Directions:
1. Prepare the brownies according to the package instructions, substituting water with brewed coffee for an enhanced chocolate flavor. Bake and allow them to cool completely, then cut into 1-inch squares.
2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the chocolate pudding mix and cold milk until smooth. Let it sit for 5 minutes to thicken.
3. In another bowl, whip the heavy cream with powdered sugar and vanilla extract until it forms stiff peaks, being careful not to overbeat.
4. Begin assembling your trifle by arranging a layer of brownie squares at the bottom of a large, clear trifle dish.
5. Spoon half of the pudding over the brownies, then add a layer of whipped cream.
6. Repeat the layers, finishing with a generous layer of whipped cream on top.
7. Garnish with chocolate shavings, and if desired, additional toppings like toffee bits, chocolate chips, or fruit of choice.
8. Refrigerate the trifle for at least 2 hours to allow the layers to meld before serving.
Variations & Tips:
– For a boozy twist, drizzle your brownie layers with a flavored liqueur such as raspberry or Irish cream before adding the other layers.
– To make a mocha trifle, mix a tablespoon of instant espresso powder into the pudding.
– If you’re short on time, use a store-bought whipped topping in place of the homemade whipped cream.
– Incorporate a fruit layer by adding raspberries or cherry pie filling between the brownie and pudding layers for a fruity surprise.
– Allow the trifle to chill overnight if possible, as this will enhance the flavors and create an even more cohesive dessert.
